Odysseus was the main character in a story titled The Odyssey; which was written by Homer.

When the not-so-glorious Odysseus, son of Laertes just manages to elude the cannibalistic clutches of the blinded Kyklops (IX) and takes to the high seas, he becomes arrogant and taunts his nemesis.

The swineherd is not the only character that Homer uses to show loyalty, Penelope and Telemachus show unyielding faithfulness to Odysseus throughout the epic poem; as do many other characters even gods.

Even in the bleakest of situations, Odysseus did not give up.

All of these examples show that Odysseus has extreme determination and perseverance.

Poseidon is so angry at Odysseus for the harm he inflicted on the Cyclops, that through the influence of all powerful Zeus, he punishes Odysseus along with his other children, the Phaeacians, who can be seen to parallel as well as contrast with the Cyclops....

One of the reasons it has been so is because of the hero, Odysseus.

In the poem Odysseus has had some bad luck getting home, with some of the gods helping him and some hindering him; his journey towards home is a constant struggle.

Athena goes to Ithica to try to help Telemachus (Odysseus’s son).

The only reason Odysseus ties himself up to the mast, when instead he could have simply plugged his ears with wax like the rest of his crew, is that he chooses the jeopardous choice, wanting to "go down in the books" by being the first man to ever listen to the Sirens song and live....

As I read the end of Cyclops, I noticed one trait about Odysseus.

High-RiskTopics

The following topics look easy, but are in factextremely difficult. So much so that virtually all students who havepicked these topics have failed completely. So if you look at one ofthese topics and think, "oh, this is an easy question," you probablyhave not understood the question at all!

Make sure you read the whole prompt for this topic. Most people whopick this topic get it horribly, horribly wrong at first because theydon't get that they are supposed to actually definevalue, not just talk about what things theyvalue, and how different people value differentthings. This isn't defining value, any more than saying "my height issixty-six inches, and different people have different heights" defineswhat height is.

Unprocessed Wikipedia Based Topics

Here are some topics that seem cool for me, but I haven't made aquestion page for yet. The basic way to approach these topics, asalways, is to identify two opposing positions, identify a main argumenton each side, and then figure out which argument is weaker. The sidewith the weakest argument loses. The side whose argument isn't weakwins.

I picked these links because they looked interesting. I can't guaranteethat each one will have two opposing positions.

Ifyou pick one of them, for more detailed instructions. As with any other topic, your paper should discuss and evaluate thearguments on both sides of some significant issue. If youcan't find a significant issue with arguments on both sides don'tdo that topic!
