History Always Repeats Itself « Hovin | This I Believe

Does anyone really think that every living creature has these lines of code inside its reproductive system? Does anyone claim that there is really a cosmic random number generator? My professional experience in simulation leads me to conclude that "random chance" means "I don't know how this works," or "I do know but it's too complicated to model." One could use physics equations to model the throw of a pair of dice on a craps table, but it would be extremely difficult. Random number generators reproduce the expected results, not the process. We use simulation and random number generators to reproduce the statistical results over thousands of trials. The term "random chance" has been used to imply some sort of Godless, causeless wandering. But in reality "random chance" is a statistician's technique for modeling processes that are beyond our comprehension. It is a valid technique, but it has no theological implications, except the ones stated so vividly in Job 38-41.

The actions someone takes in their life are not immediate, but always progressive. This is because their actions are never done when they complete the action. It’s always the starting point of a new action. As a child and student, I have taken countless actions whether important or not. What I act for, what I act from, and what my actions do, is part of the history in my life. They aren’t just there when I was because I was doing it, they were there so that in the case that I would need to do something similar, I would know how to. History in a person repeats itself. History in the world repeats itself. History repeats itself no matter how many people try to say that it’s just how people of the present think like people of the past. That too is only history repeating itself. History, has a lot of legacies and minor events that just keep happening in so many different ways, that one would not believe it’s repetition.

A lot of the legacies of the past dating back to the Revolutionary War, can be used as an example. African Americans who were mostly enslaved at the time were allowed to fight. You see this occurring again during the World Wars where they were allowed in the military. This is but one example out of many that history doesn’t really change. It is more of a change in the thinking of the people and how they act. I believe that history repeats for the sole purpose of teaching people where they went wrong, and showing them how they have changed.

The injustices of the past are revealed in the present. The ways that people tried to change are shown in the present. The mistakes that people make are repeated in the present. But everything originates from the past. The current present will also one day become a past and the new present that replaces it will reflect on this present that we have. History is one of many things that likes to repeat itself. A teacher might get annoyed if they had to repeat what they say over and over. But history, is a teacher that doesn’t stop repeating what it “says” until mankind gets it into their system. History does not care for what we think unless it’s what it wants us to think. History does not care for our actions unless it’s the actions that it has been seeking from us the whole time. I believe that history is just like a stubborn child. It just keeps doing the same thing over and over until it gets what it wants; like a child that would whine, cry, and scream until its wants are met.

So far I have left mathematics out of my discussion, but to illustrate perpetual motion of the third kind I need just a little mathematics. The second law states that exchange of heat leads to a change of entropy. Mathematically, entropy change dS when a small amount of heat (dQ) enters a reservoir at temperature T is dS = dQ/T. What matters at this point is that a rearrangement of our equation to dQ = T•dS demonstrates that knowing the entropy change and temperature along a curve in the T-S plane is equivalent to knowing how much heat got transferred when the machine or process evolved along the curve. Since heat and energy have the same units, integrating T•dS also represents an exchange of energy. By means of a graph that plots T against S a person may analyze the operation of a machine or process. Note also that in rearrangement of the second law I glossed over the problem of what happens when T is zero; this problem becomes apparent in a moment.

But I object to requiems altogether." Later critics such as Britten and Tippet were slightly more lenient, objecting not to the traditional elements but to what they considered its aesthetic failings: Tippet wrote that Brahms had tried to fill the "Beethovenian mould without realising its inherently dramatic nature." Gradually, however, in England as well as in the United States, negative criticisms disappeared, to be replaced by serious academic studies of the origins and construction.

Remember that a difference in temperature means that heat will flow spontaneously between two objects, and the flow of heat also means we can do work. Suppose that "A" and "C" are small reservoirs for storing heat; like water baths, for example. Putting in or withdrawing heat from them will change their temperature. Suppose "B" is a huge reservoir. No amount of heat extracted from it or rejected into it ever changes its temperature.

There is not enough water to cover the entire earth, including the top of Mt. Everest (29, 028 feet above sea level). If the ice caps on Greenland and Antarctica were to melt, it would raise sea levels only a few hundred feet (see calculation). If every cloud worldwide were to rain out all its water, it would still raise the sea levels only another inch. Genesis reports that the "fountains of the deep" spewed forth more water. Until geologists find evidence of these fountains, or discover the underground aquifers that hold 6 miles deep of water worldwide, I cannot honestly accept the idea of a non-miraculous worldwide flood. When evidence for fountains is discovered, I'll be happy to take a look at it.
