The depression was the biggest economic fall in American’s history.

But the seed that sprouted into the Great Depression was planted early in the 20th century. World War I caused a vast demand by Europe for American goods. These goods were sold to Europe on a credit basis due to the lack of ability to pay on account of the after effects of the war. This was widely accepted among Europeans and Americans and seemed to be a good idea. The truth behind all these loans was a vast accumulation of debts which would ruin the United States within the next few years.

The Great Depression started in the late 1920s and continued on until the early 1940s.

In fact, most studies on this topic have been concentrating on these countries as they are regarded as the major victims of the Great Depression; the global impact has hardly attracted any attention, especially for the case of Southeast Asia.

Each of these reasons probably played a part in the Great Depression.

There were many causes that assisted in bringing the depression into existence.

No nation could emerge from the cauldron of national crisis without profound social and cultural changes. While many undesirable vices associated with hopelessness were on the rise, many family units were also strengthened through the crisis. reshaped the American mosaic. However, some argue that the Depression began about 10 years earlier in Europe but the United States assumed that it was immune to such a downturn. Consequently, the American government at that time did not formulate policies and measures to ensure that the country did not experience the same meltdown as Europe.

Americans failed to see the great problem looming overhead though.

The Great Depression brought a rapid rise in the as many unemployed workers resorted to petty theft to put food on the table. Suicide rates rose, as did reported cases of malnutrition. Prostitution was on the rise as desperate women sought ways to pay the bills. Health care in general was not a priority for many Americans, as visiting the doctor was reserved for only the direst of circumstances. Alcoholism increased with Americans seeking outlets for escape, compounded by the repeal of prohibition in 1933. Cigar smoking became too expensive, so many Americans switched to cheaper cigarettes.

The effects of the Great Depression were huge across the America....

Nations that owed America billions of dollars could not honor their obligations because of the effects of the depression. Despite these events, Americans continued to invest heavily in the stock market, which hit its highest mark in 1929. A decline began soon after and on 24th October 1929, investors began to sell millions of shares in panic as the decline persisted. The stock market crashed on 29th October 1929 (Black Tuesday) and investors including banks lost billions of dollars. The resultant economic downturn lasted for 10 years and spread to other economies especially America’s trade partners.

In the 1930’s is when the Great Depression begun.
